Gas stove leaking — should you repair it yourself?

Quick checks before you call

• Is there a gas smell, hissing, an unusual flame, or a heating cylinder?
• What are the positions of the cylinder valve and stove controls?
• Has everyone left the area, and can help be called from a safe place?

What can you do?

1. Do not operate switches, create sparks, or use a flame to test for gas
2. Close the cylinder valve only if it is safe to reach
3. Ventilate only when this can be done without touching electrical equipment
4. Leave the building and call 114 or the gas provider from outside
